Li'l Boy Lost

Ill: The Worried Shrimp

Here's a promising example of Bush operating freestyle, without a brain, in a recent foray into public speaking to other heads of state about democracy. We thrill to imagine how much worse things can get, with "Bush's brain" Karl Rove due to "leave." *heh heh*

Looks like Bush left the building some time ago, although, in theory, he still walks among us, & still, unfortunately, thinks he's capable of being President of the US of A.
"By the time he arrived in Prague in June for a democracy conference, President Bush was frustrated. He had committed his presidency to working toward the goal of 'ending tyranny in our world,' yet the march of freedom seemed stalled. Just as aggravating was the sense that his own government was not committed to his vision.

"As he sat down with opposition leaders from authoritarian societies around the world, he gave voice to his exasperation. 'You're not the only dissident,' Bush told Saad Eddin Ibrahim, a leader in the resistance to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. "I too am a dissident in Washington."
Scorecard so far under Bushco: pretty unnerving from a man who has unilaterally suspended habeus corpus, a good deal of our civil liberties, declares war willy-nilly just because he can (but if you need some reasons, he'll be glad to invent some for you), approves torture here & abroad, has very probably succeeded in stealing elections, & reserves the right to suspend same in 2008 if he so declares. And spies on his own population. Not to mention the surprisingly successful attempts to subvert domestic justice & turn the federal government into a wholly-owned subsidiary of the GOP.
Hell, at this point, even Dick Cheney couldn't do any worse.

Too true! I wonder what really bounces back and forth in that skull?

The way I see it, Demon Princess, impeachment is the only way to heal this nation. Nancy Pelosi's unpricipled impeachemt-off-the-table position blocks any effort to impeach Bush or Cheney for their many crimes and abuses of power. I think her positon is killing the Democratic party too, by driving away not just the progressive members of the party, but independents who voted for Democrats last Novermber expecting some action in defense of the Constitution. When will the Democrats in Warshington wake up and realize it's not impeachment that will hurt the party....it is the lack of it!
?!?!

Very well said, MO mule. I'm in complete agreement.

The thing is that it's the remedy the founders envisioned. And there's nothing radical about it in that sense. Perhaps Nancy was thinking of the "impeachment" of Bill Clinton, who couldn't keep his pecker in his pants (any woman will tell you that is indeed a firing offense on the personal level, but is it really worthy of charge of "high crimes & misdemeanors" worthy of impeachment on the public level?) And Whitewater...whatever. Not to mention that Republicans seem to have had the most trouble with that recently, & some don't even bother to toe the party line with regard to keeping it in the approved orifices of the OPPOSITE sex. When they do, they seem to think the situations can be salvaged politically by marrying mistresses & making "honest women" of them...repeatedly. *See Gingrich* Isn't Giulani on his 3rd also? I don't care & don't keep track, but then I have NO interest in voting for the self-aggrandizing blowhard.

Anyway...it may have been Nancy's considered decision to take it off the table lest the country has drifted so far right that these piddling issues of personal sexual peccadilloes become an endless round of 3-ring circusses. But she has made a major mistake there.

When an executive *& in this case, the ENTIRE branch* gets so out of control that they presume to think they can get away with precisely the things that strip all semblance of democratic nation away, (as the founders foresaw likely) impeachment is the only answer.

Unless, of course, they prefer a free-for-all revolution in the streets.

What I see is Democrats becoming so "centrist" that we really don't have 2 viable parties anymore. There's just a choice between more virulent & evil & less so. I predict that if there are no immediate, lasting steps to rectify it, the political splintering & vacuous culture wars will only get worse with time, & we'll end up as effective as, say Italy, in governance because of so MANY disagreeing splinter groups.

Cleaning up politix & the source of power ($$), & impeachment is clearly the most palatable & workable option.

Whew!

Sumo: My guess is visions of himself as a homicidal he-man starring in his own home movies. And incidentally, ruling the world...forever.
